Advancement for Beginners

Constituents are likely to be familiar with reunion season and the annual fund, but when it comes to advancement they, along with advancement office staff newbies, might be unaware of what it is all about.

What are major gifts? How does an advancement office break down? How is a donor identified? These are just a few of the fundamental questions that we hear from our colleagues who are not actively engaged in our space.

To get to the core of these knowledge gaps we consulted our in-house expert, Jim Zimmerman, and looked to other valuable resources, such as the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, to compile a brief guide on Advancement for Beginners.

This ebook lays out the basics of how institutions seek to support their mission, through the work of alumni relations, communications and development. Of course, as active volunteers, at EverTrue we’re always seeking to learn more as well about the space that we serve — and in particular how technology can help benefit advancement office efforts.

So, please let us know what you think of  Advancement for Beginners and what topics you’d like to see us address in future resources!
