Apps by Platform: Apple > Android > BlackBerry

Earlier this month, I posted a slide from Morgan Stanley’s Mobile Internet Report.  I really like the content and organization of the report, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Mary Meeker presented an updated version from her talk at the Conversational Marketing Summit in New York two weeks ago.

If you’re interested in statistics like this, Matthew Ingram from GigaOM posted a great summary of Meeker’s presentation here. I thought the slide below was most relevant for alumni relations and communications professionals evaluating mobile alumni engagement strategies.  This provides a snapshot of mobile applications statistics by platform. The most surprising statistic for us was the lack of apps available on the BlackBerry platform. Hopefully this will improve in the coming months.

Also, following up Andy Shaindlin’s post on  alumni magazines, I was fascinated to see the following slide about the iPad.  The iPad reached 1 million units sold over 2.5x faster than the iPhone, despite an entry-level price point of $500.

And according to this TechCrunch article, the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million units in three days!  That must make it the fastest-selling consumer electronics device in history.

It’s going to be fun to continue to track developments in the mobile market.  It’s really amazing how quickly things are changing.

Ever True!
