The fundraising landscape of higher education is fascinating.
Every year, it provides funding for new faculty, new technologies, and innovative research. It allows schools to build new facilities through capital campaigns.
It connects alumni through similar interests, adding value to the graduate network.
And, most importantly, it creates opportunities for hundreds of thousands of students to obtain a degree through scholarships.
Although I’m still in the early stages of my career, I’ve experienced both ends of the higher ed advancement spectrum. While enrolled at Washington State University, I had the unique opportunity to serve as the Student Regent on the university’s Board of Regents. During that time, WSU approved more than $300 million in capital projects, opened an additional satellite campus, started a new medical school, and completed a $1 billion fundraising campaign. I saw firsthand the impact that generous donors could have on an institution—and I was hooked.
After leaving Washington State, I found myself on the East Coast and joined the annual giving team at Bryant University. Working at a small, private school in Rhode Island was quite the change from the environment I was familiar with at a large, land-grant institution in the PAC-12. Regardless, as a development officer in the annual giving office, I enjoyed the process of learning how to engage alumni who had never given back to the institution and connecting with young alumni who have a lower capacity to give.
Whether it’s a $10 gift from a recent graduate or a seven-figure donation to name a building, both have an impact on the university.
At EverTrue, I saw a chance to combine my affinity towards higher ed advancement with new-age technology that enables colleges and universities to engage more of their alumni, raise more money, and in turn, make a bigger impact on the lives of their students.
Technology and automation have touched nearly every part of our daily lives, and we here at EverTrue are now bringing the same to the advancement world. This company was built by folks who understand higher education and the impact it can have on people’s lives. Having already enhanced fundraising efforts at more than 300 institutions, I look forward to helping the company continue to grow and turn the affinity of school’s alumni into tangible change.
