Proactive Prospecting by Keyword Search at GWU

The GWU prospect research team was tasked with building a prospect gift pyramid to renovate a 100-year-old freshman dorm, Thurston Hall.

The team of star prospect researches coordinated with their Communications colleagues to post on Facebook about the Thurston renovation. Then, they mined contact reports by keyword “Thurston,” and layered in Facebook engagement insights, interests, and capacity indicators.

This is a walkthrough of how they were able to galvanize 105 $50k+ proposals, 66 of which have been accepted.

Kenyon’s team of gift officers used EverTrue for collaborative trip planning to get their President on the road, find prospects to fill out trips, build invitation lists for event series, and slice and dice data without wait times or silos. The team shifted the way they mined data and what they did with that data.

The end result? Ultimately, they hit their goal 2.5 years early and secured $50MM to fund scholarships for undocumented and Pell-eligible students, including a $25MM matching gift from the Schuler Access Initiative.
